Larry looked confused. “What do you mean other three? Who else is there besides Julie, Claudia and the boy?”
I guess Gerald hadn’t told him that Julie’s mother had arrived. I was curious to see how he’d take the news. “Gerald arrived earlier this morning and had a tag along with him. She came in her own car of course, and Julie wasn’t too thrilled about her being here.”
Larry rolled his eyes. “There could be only one person I know of that would show up at the wrong time and have that effect on Miss Julie. I’d like to wring her neck for coming now. Where is she?”
I looked over at Gerald, “I sure hope she’s upstairs with Claudia and the boy.”
The front door opened and I heard the woman in question say, “Tell me Wes, are there more like you back home?” Then she giggled and for some reason, I wanted to smack the crap right out of her. It didn’t help that she was clinging to the side of the man that I’d been fantasizing about since yesterday.
“Mrs. Cartwright, I thought I told you to stay upstairs with the others.” She was getting on my nerves real fast. Then I watched Larry come out from behind Gerald and walk right up to her.
“You’re not welcome here and you know it. I suggest you leave now. In fact, I’ll escort you out the gate myself.” Larry went to grab onto her arm, and she brushed his hand off.
“Don’t touch me!” She turned to Wes and said so that everyone could hear. “You’re not going to let him man handle me that way, are you?” I wanted to laugh at Wes’ deer in the headlight look. He didn’t have a clue what was going on.
I’d better try to save him. “Wes, that’s Julie’s mother, Kathy. If we can find Julie, she could let us know what she wants to happen here. Just as a reminder, ma’am, there may be a killer on the property. I told you to stay upstairs and that’s for your protection.” And obviously for the protection of all the good-looking younger guys.
